An open conversation concerning the Christian Church in America.

Let me first state that I love The Church. I believe it to be the expression of Christ to the world. This site is not intended to be a forum to bash The Church or any particular church. What this site is, is an open conversation about the state of The Church in America and how we as members in this Church can better reflect Christ to our culture.

Welcome to the conversation.

What would an understanding of the church look like if it were truly missional in design and definition?

I have been reading an interesting book by Darrell Guder entitled, The Missional Church. It is from this book that I draw the above question. I don't mean to be redundant, but I guess I am wondering what would happen if we were as concerned about those outside our walls as we are with those inside of our walls. Of course, those outside the walls don't pay tithes.

If we believe that the Gospel informs sociological/spiritual needs, how can we find out what the sociological needs are in our community?

There is something heroic about planting a church in a depressed urban setting and I commend those who are doing it. The socioeconomic needs in these areas are often very obvious, but how about the needs in suburban/rural areas? How do we find out what they are so we can better serve our communities with Kingdom values?

What would a church for the unchurched look like?

Okay, I know what you're thinking. Once the unchurched become part of the church it's no longer a church for the unchurched but a church for the churched...uh, I think. What has been floating around my mind is what would a church look like if its core competency was to connect with people who have never been a part of a church community?
